Kara L. Williams, Professional Mental Health Counselor, received her
Masters Degree from South Dakota State University and is currently practicing in Brandon, SD. Kara has over 10 years of experience
working with children, teens, adults and families in a variety of areas. She is experienced in working with families in need
of intensive in-home therapy as well as individuals seeking outpatient counseling.
With young children, she has extensive training and experience in play-therapy, addressing many
issues including emotional or behavioral issues, physical/sexual/emotional abuse, grief and loss, anxiety and depression and
dealing with the aftermath of divorce or other difficult transitions.
She has conducted groups for children with emotional and behavioral disorders, anger management and self esteem
groups for teen girls. She has conducted parent workshops and social skills groups as well.
In the outpatient setting, Kara has experience working with family and relationships issues,
parenting concerns, substance abuse as well as chronic mental illness, anxiety, depression and self esteem with clients of
all ages.
Clinically, Kara works from a client centered
and cognitive framework. Understanding and respecting the needs of the client and their individual beliefs and viewpoint are
most important in helping clients reach their goals for therapy.
Flexibility
in scheduling and setting allow for sessions to be held in the office, in the home or other community setting, such daycares.
Evening and weekend appointments are available. Most insurance accepted.
